American Oak Chips - Toasted

American Oak Chips will allow you to imitate storing your wine or beer in an oak barrel without the expense. Add more complexity to your wine or beer by using oak chips. American oak chips have more bite, or aggressive flavor, than French oak chips. Be cautious with the amount you use.

Some recipes call for as little as 2 - 4 oz if you are letting the wine age on it for 2 - 3 months.

If you are using it for a shorter time, as in the fermenter, use a more agressive addition; for white wine, 1 cup of chips is recommended. You can try 2 cups for a red wine. Simply boil in water for 10 minutes, then drain and place the chips in your plastic or glass fermenter before transferring.

If you are not familiar with the effect of the oak chips, follow your recipe.
